I love watching a wedge shot spin back and go in the hole. I tried hard to master how to spin it back. After reviewing my statistics, I realised I wasn’t often long on my shots, which made me understand that chasing the perfect spin wasn’t necessarily helping my game.

I discovered that the best-struck shots had the perfect amount of spin—not too much, not too little, but just right, like in the story of the three bears. I still remember watching Greg Norman on the 11th hole at the Grand, spinning back 6 irons. I wondered how he did it. It took me 10 years to realise that the right amount of spin happens automatically with proper ball striking.
